I used to be an avid reader. Like devour books.

Then I had kids, I have two yr old twins and a 6.5,yo (who thankfully is also devouring books at an alarming rate 🤣). It meant I stopped reading as I don’t have time and was tired and had boring grown up things to do.

I want to read again. Get into some good books. But it’s been so long, I don’t know where to start. I’ve lost track of authors etc. I would like to use our Library, but it’s pretty small the local branch but can request from others so I need to know what to ask for!

Prior to my lapse this is the sort of stuff I enjoyed… That I can remember off top of myvhead. I had to do a huge cull of vooksxwhen we moved house.
Please recommend me some stuff and givee a few lines summary to help me on my rediscovery of love for reading (my OH is keen to help and Will ban me from watching TV certain nights of week to aid this 🤣)…

    Tolkien,
    Magician- Raymond E Feist
Anything by Haruki Murakami (but I think in retrospect I probably wouldn’t enjoy as much now I’m older as think it’s a bit msyoginistic!)
Norther Lights and book of dust trilogy – Pullman
Girl with dragon tattoo – Stieg Larsson
Wise man’s fear – Patrick Rothfuss
    Mistborn trilogy – Brandon Sanderson
Long way to a small angry planet – Becky chambers
Hitchhiker’s guide to galaxy – Douglass Adams
    Abhorsen series – Garth nix
David Nicolls as an easy read
DaVinci Code as an easy read, but appreciate writing is awful (in my opinion)
    Some Stephen king stuff

So I guess maybe the general them here is fantast, sci fi with some thrillers thrown in ?!?!

    Thankyou in advance kind people!

Some books I read and enjoyed recently: the school for good mothers by jessamine chan, the bee sting by Paul Murray. Both had heart racing moments for me.

I’m onto a cosy read now called the girl with the pearl earing by Tracy chevalierm

I have a good to read called machines like me by Ian mcewan (kind of scifi I guess)

      I’m in the same boat kinda. I have a 7.5, a 3.5, and a 1.5.

Brandon Sanderson has done a lot of cool stuff lately. Tress is amazing.

Other authors I think you’d like: Robin McKinley, Naomi Novik, Lois McMaster Bujold, Rachel Hartman, Rainbow Rowell, Blake Crouch

Black Water Sister by Zen Cho. Check out Elizabeth Moon, Martha Wells, Becky Chambers, Lois Bujold, Terry Pratchett (But start one of the subseries/character arcs inside Discworld. Good starting points are the Wee Free Men, or Equal Rites or Going Postal or Guards Guard or Mort) S M Stirling maybe. Dorothy Sayer, Tony Hillerman, Louise Penney
