I have a general understanding of WW2 but would love to know a lot more. Does anyone have any recommendations on the best books to learn from. I’ve heard Antony Beevor has some good ones and would probably end up going with those but just wanted to check if there’s any better ones I should know about. I’m not a complete beginner as I know roughly what happened and know many key dates and events and I’m just looking to increase my knowledge.

I quite like most of historian Tim Cook’s books, but the focus is definitely Canadian troops, and he’s just getting started on WW2. He’s written several about WW1 so far
Band of Brothers by Ambrose.
Follows one group of airborne from training thru Dday and many of the big battles is Europe. A very up close & personal view of the war.

I’ve read a lot of comprehensive narrative histories that I can suggest, but the definitive book for understanding the war is The Good War: An Oral History of World War II by Studs Terkel
The Rise and Fall of the Third Reich by William Shirer
