I am 20f never rlly read or finished a book ever other than reading a few pages of some popular book Nd some self help ones lol but this time I am determined cuz I got rid of my social media addiction so I need a new addiction ig lmao

As for my genre preference idrk..which to choose I mean you can throw any genre at me EXCEPT ANYTHING HORROR 🥲

but I do like the fantasy genre when it comes to movies and such like I enjoyed Harry Potter , thought of reading that too but the thing is I feel like this isn’t the best choice for my first book cuz I already know the storyline and all

Reading something you’re familiar with, like Harry Potter, might not be a bad idea. It can be a good way of training your brain to read without having to work too hard initially. Also there’s usually changes made between books and film adaptations, so there might still be some surprises in there.

Books I’d recommend to someone trying to get into reading: The Family Upstairs by Lisa Jewell, The Midnight Library by Matt Haig, and The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine

If you love hp, I *highly* recommend reading [Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend!! It gave me similar feelings when I first read it, but it’s definitely not a copycat book. It’s also my favorite series 🙂

Beyond that, my go to book rec for people who want to get into reading is [Holes](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/8c4608f2-106f-428d-b898-4657bab67b9a) by Louis Sachar, because it appeals to all ages, has really short chapters, and is super engaging! My mom recently recommended it to a friend of mine (it’s my mom’s favorite book), and my friend was kind of skeptical, but last night I got a text from her telling me that we were right, that the book was amazing 😆

I’m reading my 7 year old Stardust and it is entertaining but not very long. There is a movie you can watch to go along with it.

If you liked Harry Potter, there are lots of YA fantasy books to choose from.

Great intro sci fi novel – genesis echo by d. Hollis Anderson – genesis-echo.com

The Once and Future King – King Arthur, Merlin and Knights of the Roundtable..

Catcher in the Rye – Always a good pick, not too long either!

Wuthering Heights – A timeless love story, although quite different from the typical formula.

100 Years of Solitude – Probably the best example of “Magical Realism”

Try reading it anyway. Don’t even commit to the whole series, just pick up the first book and see if you like it. Even though you know the general storyline, you might enjoy the differences between the book and the movie, and you might also find it easier to read a story that you already have a picture in your head what the characters and locations look like.

    8. I think Harry Potter would be a great place to start. The first volumes are at an elementary school level and progress with each volume. You know you enjoy the story line. My youngest read HP as they came out and actually reread them (even after seeing the subsequent movies. Give it try…
