Okay so back in the old glory days of grabbing random books from the sci-fi section of half price books I came across a series of near future novels. I would like to go back and see about finding them digitally but they’ve long since been recycled back to half price.
So the basic premise is near future, slightly dystopian. People live in large mega tower like structures. The only reason that these mega structures can exist is because of some new material (like a super folded plastic molecule). The society is very tiered socioeconomically, as you go up wealth and power increase and being demoted is literally lowering your place in society. If I remember correctly it was pseudo Chinese based society (last names and family structures). One thing I do remember is a very extreme penalty for crime which was killing your entire family to the third cousin.
I read the first three books in the series but I couldn’t find the rest at half price and they were older and out of print so I could only buy very expensive international copies on Amazon.
