So I recently read this book, having never read anything by Camus before. I know he’s a philosopher too, but I haven’t read his philosophy. I picked this book up on a whim. Anyway, I really enjoyed it. I thought the prose was fantastic, it was really immersive and Meursault was an intriguing guy. So, I am not smart, and have some questions about the novella which I imagine have deeper meanings.

    1. What was the deal with the neighbour and the dog he owned? Was it supposed to be a commentary on what happens if you do conform??

    2. I feel that Meursault was a bad man, not just disinterested or ambivelent to the world around him. He says he is being executed for not crying at his mother’s funeral, but so much more happened than that; the way he was friends with that guy (can’t remember his name) who battered his ex, or that he killed the “arab” despite the other man not being a threat at that time.

    Or am I missing something?
