I only read No Longer Human and The Setting Sun by Osamu Dazai, and I loved it, and now I want to get more into stuff like Dostoevsky, Kafka, Nietsche, Nakahara Chūya, Murakami, Albert Camus, Shakespeare and others like that. I also want to read poetry by Sylvia Plath and others. I haven’t read actual poetry like that, but I want to, because I also write poems and short stories and I want to get better. (Whats funny is that what I write is strangely similar to what Sylvia Plath wrote (without intention). So I want to read more of her work. But I don’t know where to start.)
Of course we already read Shakespeare in school, but I feel like that kind of ruins the experience, because I couldn’t take my time reading it and the negativity of all my classmates was depressing.
The thing is that I’m young and English isn’t my first language, so I could read Kafka and Nietzsche in German which is my first language. I am very good at English, so that’s not a problem but I’d also need to know which translations are best, from e.g. Japanese or Russian to English, so that it’s not too modern or too far from the original.
