Hi!
My boyfriend is super into etymology and breaks down words a lot and I want to help him pursue his passion and help him expand his knowledge.
I wanted to see if people had suggestions for books about the history of Latin and it’s impact on the world. I also wouldn’t mind a dictionary-type thing where you could look up things like “poly” meaning “many”.
Any other intriguing books about language in general would be awesome!
Preference would be for books that are fun or lighthearted (he is a goofball) but more serious books are also something he’d enjoy if he learned something.
Thank you so much!

It’s not specifically about Latin, but [The Etymologicon](https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/12870068-the-etymologicon) is delightful.
