This is an issue that I have had for a long time. I am a student for context. I find it hard to read more than one book at one time both in time and mental resources.
As an example I am currently reading 12 Rules for Life and for a class need to read The Design of Everyday Things.
Has anyone found a solution to this predicament.

Audiobooks?
You could listen to one while commuting, exercising, cooking etc. and have the other one in physical form for when you have time set aside for school work.
You could try alternating days. Like Monday and Tuesday dedicated to one book, and Tuesday and Thursday for the 2nd. That way you could still take notes and stay focused.
For your situation I would drop twelve rules for life and instead focus on your school work. (I promise you that’s some of the little good advice in that book anyways, because all self help is is another person saying hey work hard, sleep right, don’t make mistakes like being tricked into buying self help books)
I try to keep amount of reads to a minimum. But right now im reading one novel with a friend. However, since I read more than them, I’m reading a second book while they catch up to my chapter.
I tend to just skim the last bit I’ve read to refresh my memory. But you could always take reading notes as well, just type up some highlights in each chapter in your phone.
I have the exact opposite problem. I can’t stop starting new books. My completion % as you could probably guess is very low…
School made reading a bit challenging, having to read multiple books at a time. This was compounded by the fact that I was a commuter for my fist two years, and didn’t want to drive back and forth multiple times per day. My solution was simple, read the books for school first, then read a book entirely different for pleasure. Thankfully due to my course of study, most of my school books were non-fiction texts (and no lie, I enjoyed them), so I would read fiction for pleasure. It will get easier post school.
