Wow…..just wow. There’s a lot of raw thought to unpack so I’ll just get to it.
I did catch some biblical parallels in the book especially after taking the time to think about it.
But also how the book doesn’t always give you a straight answer if “what happened.” You begin to ask yourself how was Noah? What happened exactly with Joad? You’re left to your own thoughts.
Isn’t it just crazy to hear about how they were throwing food in the river and pouring kerosine on the oranges. There’s moments I wondered if a hungry poor man would have a moment of sacrifice per day and set ablaze the fields that have soiled by greed. How they describe the car lot sales too is amazing.
I’ve debated on what would the book be like of there was one more chapter. I don’t know if they would have survived at all.
Prices increase and wages decrease to the point of “how hungry are you? How desperate are you to put food in your kids bellies?”
