I struggle with perfectionism when it comes to reading books, and I’m genuinely not proud of it.
Most of the time, I find myself immersed in non-fiction, diligently taking notes within the margins to summarise paragraphs and highlight key points. This method greatly enhances my understanding of the subject matter.
However, this meticulous approach also comes with its challenges. It demands a considerable amount of time, mental energy, and willpower. Unfortunately, these resources are not limitless, and there are moments when I postpone reading simply because I lack the energy to take notes. Moreover, there’s a lingering fear that without thorough note-taking, I might miss out on crucial information, which can be quite frustrating. At times, I even find myself unable to progress to the next page unless I’ve taken extensive notes. I know how amazing note taking allows me to feel when I’m able to completely understand the subject.
Any suggestions on how to move forward?
My reading preferences lean towards subjects like Philosophy, Religion, Theology, and occasionally, I delve into topics like nutrition that pique my interest. I don’t generally read for fun and most of my reading is for learning.
