First of all, oh man, what a book! I loved Vandermeer’s writing and the first person perspective was an incredible choice for slowly unraveling the twisted world of Area X. The only problem I had was that it ended too soon. Lately I’ve been getting into some more dark sci-fi stuff (I read Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? before this book and also loved it) and I really liked the cosmic horror of Annihilation. So the question is, what books are similar in vibes to this one? And I would also like to hear how the rest of the trilogy holds up in comparison to the first book. I’m probably going to read it anyway, I’m just afraid that stuff is gonna get over-explained and it will take away from the mystery and allure of the world.

    1. I’ve read all three books of the Southern Reach trilogy and they’re great! Each is a bit different than the others and no, they don’t reveal much. Vandermeer does an excellent job of keeping the mystery alive like an organism seeping into the crevices of your brain
