I’m reading this right now and wanted to share a passage which made me laugh:
> “Poets and even ordinary people make much of dew. They point to it on grass and sing its praises on spiderwebs. Words like ‘silver’ and ‘gossamer’ and ‘a thousand glittering diamond’s are thrown about whenever dew comes up, often by people who should know better.
> Occasionally, they will even go so far as to speak of ‘nymph tears sparkling on the grass’ or some such. When it has gotten to this stage, they generally need to be sat down and given a stern talking-to, and perhaps a settling cup of tea.”
Summer in Orcus is a breath of fresh air. Very Pratchett-esque and it has a truly lovely protagonist – she’s not particularly brave, has no special abilities, and no one has swooped in to save her at the last moment. She is just a kind girl using her smarts and her empathy to navigate the fantasy world she was dropped in, and hopefully make friends and help them along the way.
Has anyone else read it? It’s been a long time since I was so delighted by a book! I highly recommend it to anyone who likes whimsical, cozy fantasy with a ton of heart
