*The Quincunx* by Charles Palliser. It concerns five families and an inheritance. It’s written in a sort of pseudo-Dickensian/Victorian novel style and the plot is so complicated it would make Dickens blush. I read it once about 30 years ago and then again last year. Very entertaining if you like that sort of stuff.
