Hi!
I was hoping for some suggestions for books where the main “conflict” so to speak is the characters are separated from their home for whatever reason and are trying to get back there. Other stuff and other conflicts may happen along the way, obviously, but the main driver of the characters is that they are physically trying to go home.
I like fantasy and scifi and love elaborate or interesting world-building. I would like a happy ending (even if they do not end up back home). ETA: If you have a suggestion that doesn’t fit the fantasy/scifi genre I also wouldn’t mind hearing it, I can at least look into it then.
Thanks!

Project Hail Mary and The Martian (both Andy Weir) are both like that. For some reason they are probably the most suggested book on this site so you’ve probably read them already, but in case you haven’t, you might like them!
In a whole different genre, Cold Mountain (Charles Fraser) is about a man coming home (on foot) after the Civil War.
If you want to get really old school, how about The Odyssey?
Blake Crouch’s man-on-the-run thriller **Dark Matter**
Are you looking for only happy endings only?
City of Thieves- David Benioff
So, a good portion of the story follows these 2 young fellas sent, by a soviet officer, on a journey AWAY from home, behind enemy lines, during the siege of Leningrad, but the whole point is, their lives depend on finding a dozen eggs and bringing them back. So even though its mostly them traveling away from home, through all their tribulations, close calls, and shit that they go through, you know that they still have to make it all the way BACK HOME with a dozen eggs! Its so good, its like, Ohmygod the eggs, THE EGGS!!! DONT BREAK THE FUCKING EGGS!!!!
