Specifically looking for books – or novels or poetry or any written thought piece in general – that feels like an Edward Hopper painting (minimal but detailed, modern solitude/loneliness)
It’s not modern – 1950s – but Quartet in Autumn by Barbara Pym is a bleak [but humane] picture of ageing and loneliness. Beautifully written and without ‘fancy’ writing. It’s enjoyable because the writer has compassion for her subjects.
