I read The Troop as part of a book club pick which made me realize that I would actually enjoy to read more horror.
I think the obvious thing would be to dive into Stephen King, but the length in his books are pretty intimidating.
What are some horror books a beginner into the genre would enjoy that aren’t too long?

I love Mira Grants work and if you liked The Troop you’ll probs like her stuff. It’s like horror, sci-fi, and drama. I’d start with Feed.

He has a ton of books that are shorter than The Troop. Carrie, The Running Man, Cujo, Misery, Gerald’s Game, The Long Walk, Night Shift (a short story collection), etc.
Pet Sematary, The Green Mile, The Dead Zone, Salem’s Lot, The Shining, etc. are all less that 100 pages longer than The Troop.
House of leaves will make you want to plug in your night light again.
The Ruins by Scott Smith. Easy, quick and very unsettling read.
Intercepts, The Haar or Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery
