I’ll be on a longish flight from Seattle to London (and then on an 8 hr flight from Iceland back to Seattle) and I’m looking for a couple good books. Preferably books set in UK/Scandinavia.
For Scandinavian I always recommend either The Unseen by Roy Jacobsen, historical about a small family farming/fishing on a remote island or Out Stealing Horses by Per Pettersen about a man revisiting childhood summers at a remote cabin.
For UK so many, but memoir The Outrun by Amy Liptrot about her life on the Orkneys, raising sheep, birdwatching and recovering from addiction. Otherwise, Elmet by Fiona Mozley comes to mind, about a small family struggling to keep to themselves at the edge of society – quite a bit of violence.
But now I’m second guessing myself and realize for a flight you might want something more gripping, in which case anything by Henning Mankel 🙂
