To be more precise I like the idea of people investigating a mystery like the Dyatlov Pass Incident or the Bermuda Triangle, or the Maylasian airline disappearance and something supernatural or thrilling happens.
Bonus points if it includes an examination of the theories surrounding the event.
I’ve already read The Terror and it wasn’t my thing if that helps.

The Hunger by Alma Katsu is about the Donner party incident. It has ambiguously super natural elements but is very grounded in history.
