    1. Let’s talk about **the tale of two cities**.

Not the main character but someone who you would consider to be on the line of moral and a decadent.
But actually through a turn of events becomes a very important character in the novel that is **Sydney Carton**.
(The entire novel I would consider to be a must read because of the fleshed out characters).

Let’s talk about Albert Camus and his novel **the Stranger**.
it is said that “**those that do not cry at their mothers funeral are subject to execution**”.

The main character in this book is put on trial not for what crime he committed but rather for the morality of his actions when his mother dies I would highly suggest this book as it is one of the great reads of Albert Camus (you could follow this up with **the plague** which is another work of Camus… rats have infiltrated the town and they have created a plague and there is much going on in the novel you can **consider the rats to be Fascism as Nazis have invaded France** and Camus was part of an underground newsletter that was produced during the revolution against Fascism you can also interpret this novel in several different ways but before he became known for his philosophy he was a person that was on the front lines of rebellion.
(I highly suggest both of these works ☝️).

Let’s talk about the **Count of Monte Cristo** … The main character although justified does some really crazy things and the novel itself is amazing it’s thick and it is intimidating to people who are new to reading but I guarantee you the Count of Monte Cristo is a great read and some thing that I highly suggest

    2. Not sure how likable she comes across but try An Elderly Lady Is Up to No Good and An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed, both by Helen Tursten, who also wrote regular crime novels. These two are story collections from the pov of the one who got away so to speak.
