In my social group I’m known as the guy who reads constantly. I always keep a book on me wherever I go just in case I have some time to read. I’ve had friends who will say something like, “I just don’t like reading. I don’t understand how you can do it so much, I can never focus on anything and I get bored quickly.” And my standard reply is, “Every person is one book away from being a lifelong reader.”

I’m a firm believer in this. I’ll never forget the first time I read A Game of Thrones. I was glued to the page and would pick it up at any moment I possibly could just to get a little more in. It got to the point when I was driving and I would stop at a red light, I’d squeeze in two sentences because *I could not put it down.* So I try to encourage people to explore their interests to find that one book. What has your experience been? Did you have that *one* book that skyrocketed your love of reading?

    1. Harry Potter. Like all of them. They came out when I was in elementary school and I read the first few because a crush did too. And then I loved books more.

My mom taught me how to read with the Magic Tree House books and I’ve been a reader ever since lol

    3. I was always a reader. But I would like to share that in the science fiction community, the book that grabs you and won’t let you go is known as a “face hugger.” Yes, that’s an Alien reference.

    4. Treasure Island was the one that hooked me. Anything to do with the golden age of piracy, the gentlemen adventurers and buccaneers is right in my wheelhouse.
