For my birthday, I asked my family and and a few friends to pick me out some book prompts from a list. I would love to hear some suggestions!

I asked for 100 prompts total, but I won’t post all 100 all at once, because that would be a bit overwhelming. I may post 10 every week or so. I always see so many amazing suggestions on here <3

    The first ten prompts are-

    1. A book set on an island

    2. A summer romance

    3. A book with a vampire in it

    4. A book with a color in the title

    5. A book that starts with the letter “S”

    6. A biography about an actor

    7. Reread a book from your childhood

    8. A book set on a mountain

    9. A classic romance novel

    10. A book about nature/the environment

(May or may not be relevant, but I tend to lean away from horror or books that focus on unsettling topics. No hate at all, I’m just a bit of a “nervous person.” I can face anything irl, but books are my escape <3 so if you recommend something that would fit that description, warn me first! I’m also an audiobook reader due to my eyesight, so bonus points for there being an audiobook recording!)

      10. Once There Were Wolves by Charlotte McConaghy

    5. fragments_shored on

      1. The Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys (set in the Caribbean, inspired by Jane Eyre) OR Black Cake by Charmaine Wilkerson (this is set in the Caribbean and the UK, among other locations, so you get two islands for the price of one)
      2. Well Met by Jen de Luca for a lighthearted romance novel set at a summer Renaissance Faire (totally agree with Tom Lake by Ann Patchett if you prefer literary fiction, set at a summer stock theater putting on a production of Our Town)
      3. The Historian by Elizabeth Kostova (not super scary! I hate horror too and really enjoyed this – there are some eerie/atmospheric parts but no jump scares. Think dark academia based on Dracula)
      4. Spinning Silver by Naomi Novik (folklore/fantasy with several intersecting storylines and strong, complicated female protagonists)
      5. The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka (contemporary literary fiction that plays with POV in interesting ways, very short little gem of a book)
      6. Taste by Stanley Tucci (does an autobiography count?)
      7. The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley (this is an absolute favorite from my childhood, not sure how old you are!)
      8. Oral History by Lee Smith (set in Appalachia)
      9. Persuasion by Jane Austen (a classic)
      10. Salvage the Bones by Jesmyn Ward (set during Hurricane Katrina)

    6. 1. Treasure island
      2. Love, Life, And the list by Kasie West
      3. crave by Tracy Wolff
      4. Anne of Green Gables
      5. Skyward by Brandon Sanderson
