I recently read The Neapolitan Novels by Elena Ferrante and am looking for similar historical fiction. Here are some specific aspects of the books I liked.
1. They were set over a long period of time, starting in the 1950s and going until the 2000s. I found that time frame really fascinating because it is historical but not so long ago that it feels out of reach. All of the ways in which Italian society changed and how it affected the characters was one thing I loved about the books.
2. They were broad in scope, touching on class, patriarchal society, feminism, a transforming Italy, friendship, and many other themes.
3. There was a large cast of complex and engaging characters.
If anybody knows a book or series with these traits, especially if it is set in India, please let me know!
