Can anyone recommend a book or book series that is well written, ideally features more mature themes (not YA, although I don’t mind young characters), a lot of well developed characters, and is NOT fantasy or sci-fi?

I love ASOIAF, the The First Law series and The Expanse, and I wonder if there exist any books of a different genre, which will make me love (or hate) their characters just as much as in the examples above?

I’ve already read Lonesome Dove and enjoyed it, anything else I can try?

    1. Im currently reading the Beartown series by Fredrik Backman. The characters are well written, you feel for all of them even if you don’t like them all. The main characters are teenagers but we follow adults as well.

It’s about a dying small town, a hockey team and what a terrible thing does to the people of the town. It handles mature and heavy subjects

One of my favorite books with a large cast is the Rules of Attraction by Brett Easton Ellis
