Hi all! I must admit I haven’t read a book all the way through in years, but I am trying to get back into reading. I am definitely in need of some recommendations! I am mostly interested in horror, crime fiction, and psychological thrillers, but could be up for anything.
In terms of the horror, crime fiction, and thrillers, I tend to like darker and grittier themes.
Thank you so much in advance!

The Rivers of London series. Crime fiction with a magical twist, modern setting but a lot of background lore provided. At least ten books in the series. Books are great and so are the audiobooks.
I’ve been recommending Leslie Wolfe to everyone, her most recent book especially. It’s called If I go missing
If you’re up for looking beyond some cultural things and weird names, the danish book series “Department Q” has a very nice English translation.
I think there are 9 books now, the sixth movie is coming out this week.
It’s about a police detective, who after a rough case, gets named department head for division Q (an attempt to derive more funding). He gets put in a basement office and the job of going over old cases.
The first book is written in parallel, so you follow one storyline from 2002 to 2007, catching up to the timeline of the main character.
*Headhunter* by Michael Slade checks all those boxes
