So I finished reading Umami (English translation)today, and tried to find opinions on the book but couldn’t find any!
I absolutely adored the book, I think I have really lucked out on how the books I’ve been collecting over the past years are all somehow slice of life books which leave you feeling good, even if the ending is sad, like A Man Called Ove, for one more day, and now Umami. The way the characters were handling grief was really realistic, sad, and relatable. And I just love when authors write poetically, it’s such a feast to read.
The English Translation I read was so soft, those descriptions didn’t seem translated at all and I realised translators also need to have a very strong sense of language. Obvious if you think about it but I was still super impressed!
