Hi all, me and my best friend are both 21 year old guys that share similar anxieties about our futures, our maturity, and our relationships. We’ve both mentioned we want to start reading more so I thought it would be fun to read and annotate a book and send it to him so he could do the same, then we could see what we found impactful and in a way support each other. I’m thinking of mainly philosophy or poetry genres, but really just anything that gives insight into, well, life. Thanks!

    1. I know that you are looking for a poetry or philosophy but have you thought about self-help? I think it might be incredibly therapeutic to read through a self-help book for yourself and to talk about it with them at the end of the day. It starts to form a whole new kind of bond.

You might consider a book that helps you to find your purpose if you have no idea what you’re going to do with yourself. A good book for that can be the purpose driven Life but it has a religious bend.

If both of you struggle with generalized anxiety you might consider something like the subtle art of not giving a f***.

    2. You might try The River Why by David James Duncan. It is a coming of age novel narrated by a 21 year old man and is often comic and very philosophical about finding your self and what you believe in.
