I love gigantic nineteenth century (particularly Victorian) novels that cover a huge swath of ground and chronicle a bunch of characters from different walks of life. My favorite examples in descending order of how much I love them:
1. Middlemarch
2. Vanity Fair
3. The Way We Live Now
4. War and Peace
5. The Woman in White
6. The Count of Monte Cristo
7. Bleak House (and other Dickens books, but honestly he’s not as great with fleshed out characters as the other examples)
Could anyone recommend others in the same vein? It doesn’t have to be strictly from the nineteenth century, because I’d consider Tom Jones a good example too. I’m also already familiar with the other works written by the above authors. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
