I’m currently halfway through The Housemaid (Frieda McFadden) and quite honestly contemplating literally throwing it away. Maybe even taking the trash to the curb 4-days early just to assert dominance. I haven’t been this disappointed in a novel in a very long while. The writing is juvenile, the pacing is somehow simultaneously fast and slow, and the characters are one dimensional at best. The “twists” are glaringly obvious and I haven’t even finished.

Typically I’ll use Goodreads as somewhat of a guide as to whether or not a book is worth the money and time. How in the world this book has a 4.34 star rating with 854k ratings is making me question the legitimacy of this site.

Any app/resource suggestions for an avid reader to utilize in these circumstances?

    1. Ah, the Housemaid and Goodreads. Two very different things, but I’ll try to connect the dots for you. So, the Housemaid is a South Korean psychological thriller film. It’s got drama, suspense, and all that jazz. Now, Goodreads, on the other hand, is like a book lover’s paradise. It’s an online platform where you can track your reading, discover new books, and even join book clubs. So, if you’re into both movies and books, you can watch the Housemaid and then hop onto Goodreads to rate it and find similar books with twisted plots.

It’s just an airport book that is not meant to be taken any seriously. Kind of enjoyable that way. Not the best but it is fine to finish in one sitting and forget right after.

I like getting my books off of awards, like international booker or pulitzer if I have absolutely nothing to read. Way better than Goodreads.

    3. That’s so disappointing! Goodreads can be a great resource, but you may get more value out of following a user who reads books that are similar to what you like. You may be more likely to find something that works for you through their “read” list vs. star ratings from the masses.
