    Spoilers for the Grishaverse.

I finished Rule of Wolves, and have now read all 7 main books in the Grishaverse.

In the Six of Crows duology, the main crew of six are diverse. One is handicapped. One is a colored girl. Two are gay. One is bi. And one is the straight white male. In the entire duology the only character who dies is the straight white male. I think she did that to save herself from potential backlash.

In the King of Scars duology, many of the previous characters return. This duology also has a trans character. 3 main characters dies in this duology, and all of them were the straight white males of the series.

My theory is Leigh Bardugo filled up her books with diverse characters, but only had the straight white males die so as to not upset any specific part of her audience. I think this is a shame because it makes potential deaths predictable and also makes me think that she might be slightly pandering to queer audiences.

I just wish she knew she can kill off the trans character or the handicapped person without being worried of being called transphobic or whatnot. As long as the death makes sense in the story, who cares if they were queer or not, unless they died partly because of that. I love diversity, I just don’t want authors thinking their diverse readers have to be coddled.

    1. What makes you believe she wanted to kill off those characters?

This argument would make sense if you have reason to believe she had intended to kill off those characters but changed her mind but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

This is a whole lot of weird speculation without a lot of actual evidence, not even getting into how her LGBT characters are often not the main focus… at all. If she wanted to pander to LGBT people to the point of killing off cishet white men… she would’ve written more prominent LGBT characters.

Very weird argument you have here.
