I (19m) haven’t willingly read a book at that wasn’t for school (and even then those are only textbooks that I can’t spark notes) and can’t stand reading. The thought of having to read a story or anything that’s not sorta quick is torture to me. I think the nail in the coffin for reading was Old Yeller in the 5th grade. Thats gotta be the most boring book I’ve ever read and I’ve got no clue how that’s a “classic”. Does anyone have any idea why I dread reading so much? I feel it affects my school work because I just refuse to fully read anything and when I have to read about stuff I don’t care about then write about what “resonated with you” I get so upset even tho that’s pointless to do so.

idk maybe it’s adhd or something or maybe you just don’t like reading. that’s perfectly fine either way not every form of media is for everyone
Reading for school and then having to analyze the crap out of it sucks the joy out of reading for a lot of people. Work on finding something for pure pleasure—it doesn’t need to have special meaning. I think you should look up popular funny novels or memoirs.
The way English Literature is taught in schools can make some people go off reading. Especially if you have something like undiagnosed dyslexia.
If you want to get into books but don’t fancy reading then maybe try audio books? You might enjoy them more than the dead tree version.
