I’m looking for a great horror book that feels like it could be real or tangible. I’ve read all of Steven King so that’s out of the question. I don’t like cliché horror/ story lines, I need something fresh and will give me nightmares. I love reading about pre/ post apocalyptic novels, demons, evil people. I try to stay away from zombie books since the storylines can be repeated in many books. Suggestions don’t have to be solely on gore either, I want to experience fear but if it has a little gore that’s okay.

The Island of Doctor Moreau, H. G. Wells.
Not really a horror book in the strict sense of the word, but still interesting in the horror genre.
