I am a writer looking for my next book to read. Here are some writers who have inspired me most:
Nikolai Gogol,
Kafka,
Barbara Comyns,
Janet Frame,
Virginia Woolf,
Tolstoy,
Chekhov,
Mervyn Peake,
Clive Barker,
Edith Wharton,
Patricia McKillip,
Emily Brontë,
Michael Bulgakov, and
Andrei Bely.
I love women writers. I love Russian literature too. I also just love writers who seem to be fully immersed as they are writing — very active and hands-on — the particular sensation I receive while reading Kafka or Gogol, or Don Quixote.
What I love about writers like Mervyn Peake or Clive Barker is the world building that goes far beyond genre and is pure artistic creation.
Also, I have recently been exploring audiobooks and am open to hearing any audiobooks you would recommend.
Please help! I will read everything.
