    1. Opus-the-Penguin on

Never finished the sequel. It just didn’t sustain my interest. There’s at least one other Perrotta novel that was like that for me. Something about a college student working a summer job in a lunch truck. And there’s at least one other that I did finish that was ok, I guess. Something about a youth soccer coach who gets in trouble for saying a prayer over the kids before a game. I appreciated the way he tried to get inside the heads of the people involved and not paint a caricature of anyone.

I did like *Election* the book as well as the movie. I’ve read the book at least twice and seen the movie at least three times. The only other thing I’d actually recommend by Tom Perrotta is a collection of short stories called Bad Haircut. That was a good minimalist series of snapshots of growing up in the 70s. At least for me. I’m 4 years younger than Tom, so I recognized a lot of what he was evoking and I’m sure that helped me connect to the stories.

    2. I’m a fan of Perotta’s books. Haven’t read Election in ages but I remember enjoying it, and thinking they did a good job with the movie. It is a fast read.
