I’ve joined my wife in attending her monthly book club recently as she has Alzheimer’s and can’t manage it by herself now. While she can’t read books any more, we do still try to get through the Audible version, and she enjoys attending and participating a bit.
That said, December is coming up and it’s when book presents are exchanged, and then eventually voted on to make next year’s book list.
So, as the only male member of the club, can you help me pick a great but relatively short book to gift from her? Hoping your recommendation is enjoyable enough that it gets voted onto next year’s list, and at the same time short enough that she & I have a good chance at getting through the audible version too.
P.S. Asking for help as I don’t want to inadvertently pick a “guy book” (example of short & good & guy-ish from long ago would be My Side of the Mountain … I don’t want to make that primarily-for-males mistake).

If you don’t mind wlw, this one is great https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/43352954-this-is-how-you-lose-the-time-war
Pretty short too, but i find that throughout it’s just great
some of my favorite that are 10ish hours or less
Slaughterhouse 5
Piranesi
The City and The City
Flower for Algernon
*A Psalm for the Wild-Built* by Becky Chambers is short and very sweet. It offers topics to talk about while still being easy to read.
Difficult to say, though – the voting system adds extra pressure 😀 Some information on what your wife likes/what your club has voted for in the past might help …
Foster – Claire Keegan
At Sea – Lisa Graham ( most of the characters are 50+ which is refeshing as an older reader)
