For the longest time the only thing I knew about Dean Koontz was that I saw tons of his books at thrift stores. My mom always took us to shop secondhand growing up. Last year one of his books, The Silent Corner, was free on audible and I wanted to switch it up from my usual fantasy YA vibe. The premise was interesting and I’m always down for free books.

As I get further into the series the more I wish this story would just wrap up. I just want to know how it ends, but I still have 2 1/2 books until then. I’ve spent so much time in this plot I don’t want to not finish at this point, but it’s becoming a grueling task. The way he writes feels like the general public is not his audience. It’s like he wrote this story for his buddies and himself. Which is fine, he can do whatever he likes and I could move along. I’m just wondering if anyone else feels similar, or knows if any of his books might be better.

He just gets so into the descriptions of gun specs and car models, and the way he writes conversations between most of the characters feels like they were an after thought. There was one character who was dating a P.I. who she obviously worshipped and all she seemed to be able to say was ” that’s bitchin,’ babe.” And main characters keep talking to themselves in a very…expository kinda way. Most of the conversations just don’t feel very natural or realistic.

Perhaps there’s a reason I always see so many of his books in the thrift stores 🙈 What do you guys think? Sorry in advance if he’s like your favorite author or something 😅
