Hello! I’m looking for recommendations with “Wretched Hive” cities, in other words, cities that are as crime-ridden and horrible as it’s possible to be.
Although it really doesn’t have to be a book, it can be video games, tv shows, comic books etc! I’m familiar with things like Discworld, and Gotham City in Batman, but I’m looking for other works. Hell, you can even suggest things like historical fiction – Rome is sometimes seen as a wretched hive, similar to Paris and London in the works of Dickens and Victor Hugo! Give me everything you’ve got, the best of the best!

The Warhammer Crimes books are set in the hive city of Varangantua. There is an anthology titled No Good Men. That might be a good start for you, though my favorite story from the line is the audio drama Dredge Runners by Alec Worley.
There is also the Necromunda series. The stories are set in the hive city of Necromunda. The novella Low Lives by Denny Flowers may be a good start.
Perdido Street Station is just everything someone can want from a fictional city
You want the Thieves’ World series, which is FINALLY out in a Kindle edition. The city is bad, but there are neighborhoods that are worse, and it’s all just marvelous.
