Is haunting Adeline or American pyscho worse in terms of just f-ed up things? No spoliers!

I have seen so many people talk about how horrible haunting Adeline is, but I’m interested in how bad it is in comparison to a book like American psycho. Some people say they couldn’t even get through the book… I’m reading American psycho right now and it’s pretty gross but haven’t ever thought of putting down the book.
