The best example I have of what I’m looking for is a book called {{Vanishing Wool by Clara Parkes}}. It’s written by a knitter (I don’t knit) who takes on a project of going to the source, learning the process how how yarn is made (think sheep farm, shearing, carding, dying, spinning) and making it a storytelling process. It was informative without being too “process-heavy” if that makes sense.
Another example that scratched this itch was {{The Debt Trap}}. The author started at the formation of government student loans and worked his way through history to the present.
I realized it’s probably nuanced and there’s likely crossovers into other genres, but I’ll take the ideas! I think “Stuff You Should Know” is probably an apt description of my end goal, but I like storytelling that’s engaging and not simply a manual. Open to a variety of subjects – I like learning.
Thanks in advance!
