So, I’m not sure if this is a “genre” per se, but I’ve finally worked it out! I like books about people!
Lately, the Thursday Murder Club books and a book called Secret Keeping for Beginners have been very enjoyable to read.
Can anyone recommend other books like this? I like that I feel like I really get to know the characters as the story unfolds 😀

You might enjoy Anxious People by Fredrik Backman. I certainly did. His other books would also fit this type very well.
Anthony Trollope sounds like a writer you might like. Try The Warden.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune has unique, lovable characters
You might enjoy Scottish writer Alexander McCall Smith
Jana DeLeon Miss Fortune series and Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich are both laugh out loud light mysteries.
Big Little lies by Laine Moriarty
The Spellman Files by Lisa Lutz
How Lucky by Leitch
Slow Horses series by Mick Herron, his characters are another level, he makes you care about the most unlikable characters
The Vinyl Detective series by Andrew Cartmel. Love the way he brings his characters to life.
Unhuman series Wilki Martin. This is not a cheesy Twilight style series, it’s funny and character rich, set in a small village in the Cotswolds. If you listen to audiobooks I highly recommend this one because the narration is wonderful.
Denzil Meyrick, Ben Aaronovitch, Iain Banks, Terry Pratchett and Susanna Clarke are a few others I’ve really enjoyed because of the way they write their characters to life.
