I struggle to find some good literature that isn’t an insane amount of pages. I’m looking for suggestions from any era! I recently read “very cold people” by Sarah Manguso and also “Wide Sargasso Sea” by Jean Rhys – both amazing. I just want to read some GOOD writing. TIA!!

Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka
The Stranger by Albert Camus
The Touchstone by Edith Wharton. You’ll love it.
The Crying of Lot 49 by Thomas Pynchon
The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishguro
My Year of Rest and Relaxation by Ottessa Moshfegh
Their Eyes were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston
Gentlemen Prefer Blondes by Loos. As rich as Rhys’s novel, but with hardly a lick in common.
This Other Eden by Paul Harding
Women Talking by Miriam Toews
Giovanni’s Room by James Baldwin
Some that I’ve personally enjoyed:
* [‘Revenant’](https://www.waterstones.com/book/revenant/tristan-hughes/9781912681662) by Tristan Hughes
* [‘The Fell’](https://www.waterstones.com/book/the-fell/sarah-moss/9781529083248) by Sarah Moss
* [‘A Kestrel for a Knave’](https://www.waterstones.com/book/a-kestrel-for-a-knave/barry-hines/9780141184982) by Barry Hines
* [‘Unsettled Ground’](https://www.waterstones.com/book/unsettled-ground/claire-fuller/9780241457467) by Claire Fuller (this one just exceeds 300 pages, but I thought I’d include it anyway)
