Hi! Just a little background, my bf is 24 y/o. He’s currently in school for civil engineering but he expressed his frustrations over not understanding some of the English words during the exams(we’re not native English speakers). I suggested that he read books aside from the dictionary so he can improve his vocabulary.

I want to send him some fiction books to read over the summer break but during our 8 years of being together I’ve literally never seen him hold one lol. He likes all kinds of genre when it comes to movies- mainly action movies, rom-com, or thriller.

If anyone knows a book that’s interesting but not very complicated to read for someone with a very short attention span, please drop a comment below. No children’s book please lol. Thank you so much!

    1. Now it’s hard to guess, but if you want a book series that is easy to read, allows for a short attention span and is entertaining, I’d go for Terry Pratchett.

I would start with the Vimes series, but somewhere in the middle, say “The Fifth Elephant”, as it won’t be as confusing for non native speakers.

Or you could go for something that is funny in a modern way: Tom Holt has a lot of amazing books.

And yet another approach: find something that supports your general knowledge / is non-fiction: Bill Bryson “A short history of nearly everything”, “At home” or “Down under”.
(DO NOT take any of his more recent works, he goes a bit disgruntled boomer in all of them)

The latter might be the way to go: he should just get a book about something he enjoys. Be it a biography, a book describing something, basically anything from the non fiction part of literature. Personally, I like to switch between fiction and non fiction. One for my general and work knowledge and one for fun
