I loved the way it starts out with a seemingly nobody and builds with constant tension about what is happening because you know it’s something big but there’s still a lot of mystery. There is a feeling of impending existentialism that moves forward but isn’t so big it is actively/visibly overtaking the world like a Hollywood blockbuster. Doesn’t matter if it’s similar to American Gods and >!ends up a little anticlimactic or if there is a big climax!<

I also love how it has some mysticism but the “magic” was never over the top, too corny, or an easy explanation for what should have been a bigger bind for the main characters. The only Gaiman books I’ve read are American Gods and The Graveyard Book and I loved them both.
