I have been reading Exit Interview: The Life and Death of My Ambitious Career by Kristi Coulter. She outlines her decision to move to Seattle to work for Amazon, and intimately describes the culture of that company from the perspective of a middle manager.
I also moved to Seattle the same year she did, worked at Amazon for five years, and burned out of the tech industry. The descriptions of the types of people she meets, the way that company warps people’s expectations, the stack ranking politics, the pressure of not fucking up because she moved 1500 miles to do this job, casual sexism… All of it got a little too close to home for me.
What books have you read where the author’s experience/narrative was eerily close to your lived experience?
