It’s been a long time, Lioness Rampant by Tamora Pierce was formative for me despite being young adult.
City of Stairs is a story about a world where the gods are dead and for the purposes of the oppressive government– Said not to exist anyways.
The Magicians is ENTIRELY character driven and functions more as a deconstruction of childhood magic escapism fantasy. Heavy read though.
