I’m about a hundred pages in, and the second chapter is an aside by Sully’s friend Rub in an internal dialogue with Sully. He says that Wirf, Sully’s lawyer, has died (p. 43). The very next chapter, however, Wirf is alive and well—and the explosion that interrupts the funeral (happening the same at the same time as Rub’s chapter) is felt by the folks at the bar with Sully and Wirf. Is Wirf alive or not? And why is this unclear?
I find it highly unlikely that this is an editing error because of how high-profile and meticulous Russo is. I know Sully dies—the jacket of Somebody’s Fool spoiled that for me at the bookstore—so can someone, without spoiling anything else, assure me that this apparent incontinuity makes sense at some point? Thank you!
