I’m about to have my first baby. I’m prepping for being nap trapped or breastfeeding for hours everyday and I really don’t want to spend all that time endlessly scrolling. Lots of suggestions for new moms are the standard “romantasy” genre, which just isn’t for me!

I’m an avid reader and plan to use a combo of physical books and my e-reader.

I love literary fiction, speculative and weird fiction, sci-fi and fantasy. I tend to avoid non-fiction, but open to the odd read.

I’m looking for anything engaging, thrilling, challenging or beautiful.

Here are some of my favourite books that might help guide suggestions:
    1. Annihilation and Borne by Jeff Vandermeer
    2. Station Eleven by Emily St. John. Mandel
    3. Piranesi by Susanna Clarke
    4. Song of Achilles/Circe by Madeline Miller

    Thanks!!

    1. For weird scifi with a dash of horror I’d recommend Leech by Hiron Ennes.

Lighter scifi: Murderbot is really fun.

Fantasy that is imo all of ‘engaging, thrilling and beautiful’: She Who Became the Sun and the sequel He Who Drowned the World.
