I heard so much about this series and it was praised so much that I said I must read it too, but for me it was a disappointment. To begin with, I want to mention that I haven’t finished the whole series, and I’ve only finished 4 volumes. I still have “Defy Me” and “Imagine Me” to read. I’ll start with the beginning, namely with the first volume, I heard that many people complained about the first volume of the series, they said it was bad, and the truth is that it really is a bad book but I continued to read the series because everyone says it gets better. The writing is not bad, and I liked the metaphors and the author’s engaging style at first, but the story is too boring, I want to know more about this dystopian world and I want to know less about Adam and the fact that he has hot skin and blue eyes.I didn’t like Adam at all, nor did I hate him, honestly he is a character that I am indifferent to, from all points of view. Juliette got a lot of hate and people don’t like her, but honestly I really don’t care about her, she’s just the protagonist of these books and that’s it. Let’s move on to Warner, well at first I hated him, actually not really hateful, but he created a kind of strange discomfort for me, that was until I read his nuvella and fell in love with him. It’s my fault folks, just like all chicks I fell into Aaron Warner’s net, I’m the same age as him, 19 years old, and it was very easy for my stupid young brain to be fogged. I understood this sad and lonely boy and I just wanted to hug him, he became my favorite character and is still my favorite character. It seems to me the best built character of all, it is clearly Mafi’s best character, together with Kenji, for them it is worth reading this series.
Alright Let’s go on to Volume II , “Unravel Me”. Very boring in the first half, I thoughtw I was falling asleep, until Warner entered the scene, and things got hotter, really. I liked volume 2 more than the first because AARON WARNER. I also read Adam’s nuvella, I have nothing to say about it, Adam is very erased as a character, as Warner said at one point, he is just a lamp.
Volume III “Ignite Me”, my love for Warner ignited, and because his presence is constant, this volume is my favorite and I think the author should have stopped with the story here, as she originally intended, but no, money money money. BAM, she released three more volumes on the market.
Volume IV, “Restore Me”.What the hell is this book? I don’t understand absolutely anything in the story, everything took a turn that was too embarrassing and it’s clear that the author just wanted a plot twist, but she didn’t calculate the situation very well, because the series just became a dumb soap opera. Juliette shaves her head, gets drunk, gets shot, finds out she has a sister, breaks up with Warner, finds out she’s the daughter of the supreme commander of Oceania… Come on guys, what the fuck is this? Mafi stated at one point that she completely forgot what was happening in the story and had to reread the first 3 volumes in order to write the next 3, and this is visible. It can be seen that she did it for money, and that just destroyed the series. It wasn’t a brilliant series even at the beginning, but now it’s a complete disaster. I will also read the last 2 volumes because I bought them and spent money on them, but this is where my relationship with Mafi and her books will end.
