The imagery in this book is too vivid. I live in Israel and need to read this book for an upcoming course about the western genre and it’s just so difficult. The descriptions of massacres are too real. McCarthy to me is describing the world as a perpetual hellscpae where people are randomly slotted into sides that end up slaughtering the other. It is all to real at the moment. I cannot read more than one chapter at a time and the book just makes me sad.

    1. This is one of my favourite novels, but i’m fortunate enough to not live in a country where the book’s violence is a daily reality. My deepest sympathies that it resonated for you in that way.

My parents actually met in a kibbutz, so over the years we’ve had lots of Israeli friends come and stay with us. I remember one time we were watching a war film and one of the Israeli guys walked out because it brought up memories of his time in the army. We felt terrible, but it was a good lesson that violent media is a luxury reserved for people who don’t experience violence daily.

I hope it gets better for you, friend.

    2. Well it is a masterpiece.

It’s also an evil book. Or a book about evil? I don’t know, but it can be a tough one.

      But boy what a book.
