Hello! I’m looking for some fantasy books that don’t fall into the norm of the genre. The past bunch I’ve read are all dragons, magic, elves, defeat the king, etc. Im fine with those elements since they are a key part of the genre but I’m looking for some books that take a unique spin on it.

Maybe **The World House** by Guy Adams? I read it a few weeks ago and enjoyed the uniqueness of it. Although the sequel wasn’t good and I dropped it.
If you like high fantasy, Ursula le Guin’s Earthsea series was refreshingly different, had me highlighting so many lines and pausing sometimes just to have an existential crisis (in a good way) haha.
You can give Ken Liu’s *Dandelion Dynasty* a try. It’s “silk fantasy” (that is to say based on Asian lore and mythology rather than european) and, to sum it up, engineers are the wizards.
It’s a brilliant read.
Nevermoor by Jessica Townsend

American Gods
The Difference Engine
Zone One
The Dark Tower
I’m currently reading the *Rook & Rose* trilogy by M.A. Carrick and enjoying it.
The *Daevabad* trilogy by S.A. Chakraborty
The *Broken Earth* trilogy by N.K. Jemisin
Mother of learning
Dear spell book
Mage errant
Dr anarchy’s rules for world domination
Not really unique for races but feels a bit fresher
The Poppy Wars Trilogy by R.F. Kuang! Grim dark and way to real take on Chinese history in a fantasy context!
