Imagine it ended without the last 5 chapters. Everyone is dead. The last thing we get is the glimpse of mad mind on Hickey. He is a god, he can revive the people he killed.
And no fantasy part at all. No bear-shape thing. No rescue of Crozier. No wife, no baby, no toddler. Only coldness and darkness of the polar night, and everyone is dead. And the last spark of life is Hickey’s delirium.
An option with fantasy: make Hickey not delirious. He actually becomes a super-natural being who revives the corpses at will and haunts any sould who comes to the areas (locals or rescue missions). He becomes the malevolent sentient thing on the ice for the coming times.
What are your thoughts? How did you like the ending and fantasy parts?
